Many Indian students aspiring to join foreign universities for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes can now realize their dreams of world class education in rupee if the government agrees. The much debated Foreign Education Providers Bill formulated by the MHRD in 2010 rants permission to universities of foreign nationals to set up their campuses in our country.
Nevertheless, it is dismal to note that the bill is vying for approval from parliament since long. The existing state of rupee has compelled the government to initiate the process of finalizing regulations sought after to accomplish the major objectives of the bill.
The bill also confines the minimum corpus to a staggering Rs 500 million mark along with restrictions on foreign universities reaping profits for establishing their campuses in the country.
