S Chand Grows to Become India’s Largest Domestic Producer

Tracing its roots to the grim and bleak Indian times of nationalism, the S Chand Group has evolved to become the largest publishing house in the country.

The group was founded by Shyam Lal Gupta in 1937, the group envisioned to highlight Indian author and their creations amidst the reign and suppression of British. Carrying forward its mission and vision, the publishing house expanded its business all over the world and earning the status of the biggest domestic publishers and exporters of textbooks.

The least infrastructure intensive industry and reduced entry barriers are the key reasons for its growth and development. The managing director Himanshu Gupta was reportedly saying,” We understand that, organically, we can only grow at 20-25 percent. So we want to be in the business of acquisitions. And we are looking at both the publishing as well as the digital space.”
